Save Gas and Money!
As annoying as it is buying gas all the time, it’s a necessary part of driving. Fortunately, there are ways to cut back on the gas you use, and thus the money you spend. Follow these tips to help you save gas and money this fall.
While brakes, like gas, are necessary, we don’t need them as much as we think we do. When we ride the brakes or brake aggressively when stuck in traffic, we’re wasting gas. For better mileage, allow yourself to slow to a roll before braking at red lights.
This one has a dual meaning. For one, watch how you accelerate from red lights or stop signs. Too much of anything is a bad thing, and while putting the pedal to the metal at takeoff is a gas guzzler, so is accelerating too slowly. This is because our cars use more gas at lower gears. Find the happy medium.
The second meaning? Go to the right when you can. Turning right, as opposed to left, cuts back on gas usage because turning left means waiting in traffic, which is a quick way to dwindle the amount of gas in your tank.
Remember the Little Things
Keep your car clear of excess clutter so you’re not adding unnecessary weight. Check that your tire pressure is where it should be. Warming up the engine before you take off helps your car use gas more efficiently. And remember, windows down in the city, A/C up on the highway!
